Ortisei is not only the main village of the homonymous municipality, but also an important point of reference for the Ladin villages of Castelrotto and other municipalities of the Valgardena valley, such as S. Cristina and Selva Gardena, thanks not only to its strategic position and its considerable dimensions.
The main sights of the village are the Baroque parish church and the S. Antonio church at the main square. The Valgardena museum (Museum Gröden), hosted by the Cesa di Ladins, boasts a comprehensive collection of wooden sculptures of the bygone four centuries. This is also where you can find the Luis-Trenker archive, a collection of works of the world-famous mountain film pioneer of Ortisei.
