The comfortable Post Trail (Sentiero della Posta) from Laion to Ortisei is particularly recommendable in spring and autumn
Image gallery: Autumn hike on the Post Trail
We start our hiking tour on a wonderful November day. The sun shines brightly and the 40 cm of snow, which have fallen only few days ago, have already melted down. We are immediately impressed by the Dolomites of the Val Gardena that appear on the horizon: the Sella Group, Mt Sassolungo and Mt Sasso Piatto (and later also Mt Seceda) with their snow-capped peaks, which contrast sharply with the blue sky and the colourful autumn trees.
Starting in Laion we cross a beautiful meadow landscape and head towards Ceves and Tanurza, slightly upwards, until we finally reach San Pietro on an asphalted road after having walked through a dense wood. After San Pietro the trail directly leads us to the centre of Ortisei.
Please note: long time ago, on the Post Trail (Troi da la Posta, in Ladin) the mail was transported from Chiusa into the Val Gardena. It is a broad trail easy to walk, safe for the last section leading from San Pietro to Ortisei, which requires some agility and fitness. Preferably you can stop in Tanurza or Sam Pietro and take the bus back to the starting point.
