This walking tour of 5.5 hours provides fantastic impressions of the Dolomites and its valleys. Starting from Selva Gardena, we take the Ciampinoi Cable Car, which takes us on 2,260 m a.s.l. within a short time. After having admired the outstanding panoramic view, we walk down to the crossing where we take the trail n° 526A towards the Vicenza mountain hut. The trail is narrow, but the panoramic view makes us forget all efforts.
After the Vicenza mountain hut, close the Mt Sasso Piatto, the trail starts getting better (n° 527). We walk up Mt Piz da Uridl (2,101 m a.s.l.) and follow the signpost towards the Sasso Piatto mountain hut at the Giogo di Fassa. Once reached this ridge, it is high time for a break. From this point, the trail is called "Friedrich August", referring to Frederick Augustus I, King of Saxony and enthusiast of the Dolomites. The path leads the way to the Sandro Pertini hut and Friedrich August hut and up to Passo Sella.
From this mountain pass, we enjoy a fabulous view from the Sella Group and its pinnacles to the mighty glacier of Mt Marmolada. On the other side, there are the peaks of the Sasso Piatto Group. From Passo Sella, we cross the "City of Stones" towards Mt Piz da Sela and up to the station of the Ciampinoi Cable Car. For this tour, you need to be physically fit, but it provides unforgettable views on the most beautiful mountains of the Alps.
