One of the oldest fixed-rope routes of the Dolomites leads from the Passo Sella to Mt. Piz Selva

The via ferrata of the Meisules (or Mesules - Pössnecker Klettersteig, in German) is one of the highlights of the Dolomites and our destination on this September day. We drive to the Passo Sella pass and hike on the path no. 649 at the feet of the Sella Towers to the entrance of the via ferrata.
The start is already crowded, we have to wait before climbing up the vertical rock face. The first 250 metres of altitude difference are the most demanding part of the fixed-rope route. The route secured by stairways and ropes leads through ravines and funnels. After 3 hours we reach the 2,941 m high summit of Mt. Piz Selva. Our effort is rewarded by an amazing view and a break before heading down to the Forcella Antersass ridge via the Sella High Plateau.
At the junction we follow the path to the Rif. Boè mountain hut and stop for lunch. Afterwards we continue the long descent and follow the signposts through the Val Lasties valley to turn back to our starting point on the Passo Sella pass.
Take care: due to its north-western exposition, snow and ice stay longer and the via ferrata could be cold and iced making it not accessible. It's a long and demanding tour, mountain experience is necessary.
