In the mighty Odle Group, a high alp is located which comprises an area of almost 1,000 ha and reaches up to more than 2,303 m a.s.l. It is situated between the Val Gardena valley to the south and the Val di Funes valley to the north, mostly in the municipal area of Ortisei. To the Rasciesa High Alp also belongs the beneath located forest, the entire area is protected in the Puez-Odle Nature Park.
The High Alp, a centuries-old cultural landscape with wide meadows, is divided into Rasciesa di Dentro and Rasciesa di Fuori. The documented history dates back to the 10th century. The term Raschötz probably comes from the Latin word res ecclesiae (property of the church) or from the old name “Roß-Etz” (horse pastures). In the early 50s, the first chair lift up to the Rasciesa High Alp was built, it was replaced by a modern funicular in 2010.
Today the high alp is starting point and final destination of numerous hikes, like to Funes or to Rasciesa di Fuori with a gorgeous panoramic view. In winter you can find a sledge run here. On the Rasciesa High Alp there is the Holy Cross Chapel, the Rasciesa Mountain Hut, the Cason hut, a stone construction of the Gardena artist Livio Comploi and the mountain station of the funicular.
