Selva Gardena, in German called Wolkenstein, is located at a sea level of 1,564 m and has a total of 2,600 inhabitants. Beside the village itself, the municipality comprises several natural highlights, such as the Stevia, Chedul and Cri towers in the Puez-Odle Nature Park, in the south the western flank of the Sella alpenstock, the back of the Sassolungo and Sassopiatto mountains as well as the north western areas of the passes Passo Gardena and Passo del Sella.
Beside the fabulous skiing areas in and round Selva Gardena in winter and the innumerable hiking and climbing spots in the Dolomites in summertime, the village is also rich in leisure time facilities such as ice stadium, skating and skateboard grounds, a golf course (pitch & put), a miniature golf course, horse-riding stables, tennis courts as well as the opportunity to do inline skating, playing squash, billiard or bowling.
By the way, Selva Gardena also boasts a series of historical and religious attractions, such as the S. Maria ad Nives parish church, a commemorative chapel for victims of the mountains, the small but mighty San Silvestro chapel in Vallunga valley as well as the ruins of Wolkenstein Castle. Moreover you are spoilt for choice regarding gastronomy and entertainment: pizzerias, bars, pubs, après-ski and dance clubs, every taste is catered for.
